After conflicting views and growing resentment with the Congress party, he formed the Hindustan Republic Association which soon had leaders like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad.

Bismil was also associated with Matruvedi Sanstha.  While living in this institution, he collected a lot of weapons to fight against the British, but the British Army got information about it.  The British attacked and recovered a lot of weapons.  This incident is also known as Mainpuri Conspiracy.  He was arrested and prosecuted after carrying out the Kakori incident.
